Patricia Crowther was born in 1927. She was initiated into the Craft by Gerald B. Gardner in 1960 and took the name Thelema. She and her husband Arnold founded the Sheffield coven in 1961. They appeared several times on television and became notable public figures of the Craft revival.
Crowther authored numerous books and created a unique divination system, the Witches’ Runes. Her book Lid Off the Cauldron was a strong personal influence in my formative years.
Along with other Gardner initiates Doreen Valiente, Lois Bourne, and Eleanor Bone, Crowther is considered one of the early elders of modern Wicca. Her works continue to be influential.
